nbc 10 news starts now. this chase captured exclusively by skyforce 10 ends with two arrests. we are live with details on the shooting that started it all. president barack obama is using a twin plan of attack for the crisis in iraq and it involves an international trip this weekend. and here's a live look at cape may, new jersey, along beach avenue. we'll get weekend relief from the humidity. good morning, everyone, this is nbc 10 news today, i'm vai sikahema. let's get to meteorologist bill henley. >> beautiful friday, clouds cleared out yesterday afternoon. the humidity moved out overnight and we've got a pleasant start.

clear skies over center city. that's a live view from the adventure aquarium. with clear skies, the temperatures have been coming down. we're in the 60s this morning. 65 here at nbc 10. 50s north and west for pottstown, reading and allentown. 66 in millvilleç and wilmingto at 64 degrees. a pleasant start, a sunny day ahead. 67 degrees at 7:00. by 9:00, low 70s and then near 80 degrees at noontime today. no sign of the 90s for today or for the weekend either. a look towards the weekend within i come back. but first jillian mele has your traffic. >> good friday morning to you, bill. so far, so good on the major roadways. this is 95 near girard avenue. this is in the midst of the construction zone that's out there. the boulevard is also clear. you can see the headlights, drivers making their way southbound as they pass fox street down to 76. 76 is also quiet.

we have long-term construction out along route 202. the route 29 off ramp is still closed. vai. two men are in custody after a county-to-county police chase through new jersey. skyforce 10 was there as the shooting suspects surrendered in camden. nbc 10's jesse gary is live at police headquarters in camden. jesse, how did this all play out? >> reporter: we have information that the two suspects are being interviewed by police right now possibly here in camden county. this all played out with them being arrested here in camden county after police spotted them and they tried to make a chase. this is exclusive video as the driver and passenger as they exited the suv with their hands up in the air and surrendered to police in camden. around 10:30 last night, the pair was spotted and involved in a shooting of a man in his stock am in the 7 o blook of broad --

broadway. the suv zigzagged through traffic on side streets before crashing on admiral wilson boulevard here 10th street here in camden. the gloucester prosecutor's office is the lead agency in this investigation. i put in calls to that department. i'll update you in about 30 minutes. president obama will send -- on the philadelphia school budget crisis, the school district will now turn to its labor unions in harrisburg for emergency funding. at its meeting last night, school district leaders praised a last-minute plan from city council to borrow $30 million for the public schools, that's in addition to the 27 million in planned borrowing in a portion of the city sales tax income. the district wants a total of $96 million by the end of the month. >> the city has now given us

everything that we asked for in our initial request. >> the district plans to push state leaders for a cigarette tax that could raise up to $45 million. it also wants to save millions more by getting concessions from the teachers union. from the jersey shore bureau, the owners of the financially troubled revel casino in atlantic city have filed for bankruptcy for a second time in just more than a year. the owners say they could close as early as august if they don't find a new buyer. the casino hasn't made a profit since opening in 2012. yesterday employees received letters warning them the casino may have to shut down this summer. most were afraid to talk on camera. >> worried about losing your job? >> oh, abçsolutely, yes, very worried. >> what are they telling you? >> they told us there's a good possibility if they don't find a buyer we'll all be out of work. >> the parent company of revel casino says it will try to maintain regular business hours while going through the bankruptcy and looks for a

buyer. now to the developing story, president obama will send his top diplomat to europe and iraq to try to get commitments toward calming the chaos in iraq. tracy davidson is live in the digital operations center. what the is game plan here? >> here's the game plan. he's been working on it for the last week. he met with his national security team. he decided he will use diplomacy and military assets to deal with the sunni insurgency that is threatening to tear iraq apart. here's what he announced yesterday, up to 300 u.s. military advisers would be heading to iraq to help iraqi forces. the president continues to mainta maintain, this is not a step towards boots on the ground. secretary of state john kerry will be leaving for the middle east this weekend. as we've been telling you for days, the sunni militants are

battling iraqi forces at the site of iraq's largest oil refinery. iraq is the number two oil producer in opec. analysts say gas prices could be impacted by this which the president also addressed. >> it is in our national security interests not to see an all-out civil war inside of iraq. issues like energy and global energy markets continue to be important. >> the president also said that he wants his actions in iraq to vindicate what he called the the enormous effort and sacrifice made by u.s. troops during two wars in iraq. live in the digital operations center, tracy davidson, nbc 10 news. nbc 10 has new information on a teenager slashed in the face by another student at pennsauken high school. a 16-year-old girl faces charges after police say she attacked another 16-year-old girl. the stabbing happened yesterday on eye school bus just after classes were dismissed. detectives say the alleged

attacker used a box cutter or a razor. the victim is recovering from what police tell us are nonlife threatening injuries. health officials say the first heat related death of 2014 in the state has been reported. a 56-year-old sussex county man died on wednesday, caused in part by heat exposure the man did have a medical condition. and from our trenton bureau, new jersey governor chris christie has signed a bill that guarantees disabled students equal access to school sports. the new law requires public schools to make sure disabled kids can try out and participate in athletic programs. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> skies are clear right now and the temperatures are coming down. and so has the humidity. it is much lower this morning. the humidity will stay low through the day. sunshine will be nice and bright. this weekend, we're tracking a

few showers. at least the potential for some. it's not going to be all weekend long. clear for allentown, northeast philadelphia millville. the temperatures areç cooler ts morning, up to 13 degrees cooler, 50s and 60s to start with and we'll see 80s this afternoon. clear skies over center city. we have cleared the way for a nice sunny day today. right now, 60 degrees in trenton, chester springs has dropped to 57 degrees. cooler north and west. solidly in the 50s for reading, allentown, quakertown and pottstown. 59 degrees along with phoenixville. 60s in delaware and south jersey is in the 60s. quite a range from 61 in mount holly to 69 for atlantic city and cape may harbor. bright sunshine is what you'll see today. at the coast, the jersey shore, delaware beaches, upper 70s. a beautiful friday. tomorrow there will be a few more clouds around. there's a chance of some scattered light showers for the shore and inland but it clears out for sunday with the high of

77 degrees. look beyond this weekend. when i come back with the seven-day forecast. it is 4:09 this friday morning. there's an accident out there. to tell you all about it, here's jillian mele in the first alert traffic center. >> this is happening on the southbound side of columbus boulevard out near 95 near the queen village section of philadelphia. you can see all of this activity right here. it's tough to tell what's going on from this picture. we do know a truck hit a pole in that area. it's not creating any big slowdowns in the area, though. the major roads are in the clear. 55 miles per hour is the average as far as speeds go on the blue route. 65 on the pennsylvania turnpike. no accidents to report on the highways in pennsylvania, delaware or new jersey. the ben franklin bridge as you can see is clear. all of the area bridges are in the clear right now. vai? ♪ oh, freak out

we're following a pair of developing stories out of colorado this morning. first, the shooting after a concert at the popular red rocks amphitheater near vendconvenie . the amphitheater was put on lockdown for a while. so far, no arrests. meanwhile, search crews fear a body could be underneath the rubble of a house explosion near denver. the blast yesterday sparked a fire and blew out neighbor's windows. authorities say cadaver dogs picked up a scent in the rubble. so far, there's no word on what caused the explosion. in texas, a mom is under arrest and four kids are recovering from injuries after they fell off her moving car. she's charged with intoxicated assault. police say she let her six children ride on the hood and trunk of her car so they wouldn't get the seats wet after a day of swimming. the accident happened after

young's car left the parking lot of the community pool and traveled through at least one sharp turn. here's reaction from the suspect's neighbor and the police. >> what i saw, i never saw her move. they had to do everything to get her on the stretcher and everything like that. it was really scary. >> well, of course we don't know what they were thinking, however, they weren't thinking safety. >> one of the injured kids is still in the hospital with a serious head injury. in minnesota, check this out, a police pursuit -- yeah, that's a golf course where people were playing. officers said they initially called off the chase because it was too dangerous. the department is now facing an internal investigation because of its actions. officers did get the suspect and arrested him on drug and theft charges. just released video from a traffic cam in florida shows how lucky a motorcyclist is to be alive this morning. wash as the man runs into a car

in an intersection in clearwater, doesç a flip, a ca wheel, pops up and walks it off. the driver of the car he hit was cited for making an illegal left turn. a motorcyclist was also cited for not wearing a helmet. federal investigators say the trucker accused in the tracy morgan crash was speeding, going 65 in a 45 to 55 zone. he was driving a tractor-trailer for walmart. he pleaded not guilty to vehicler homicide and assault charges. and you're looking at the scene of the accident on the new jersey turnpike earlier this month. roper's truck plowed into the limo van carrying actor/comedian tracey morgue enand -- tracy morgan and entourage. morgan is returning to new york from a gig in dover, delaware at the time of the crash.

an atlantic city police detective is back on the job after a devastating crash. he was given a round of applause. he severed part of his league during an off-duty motorcycle crash last summer. he took part in eight months of gruelling physical therapy. >> it looked like it was far fetched at the beginning but to get here and be here now, it feels absolutely amazing. >> braxton says he wants to take his progress even further by being healthier before he was before the accident. happening today, hundreds of local volunteers are helping to help -- helping kids and their families get fed. they're taking part in knockout hunger, a maujer fund-raiser for the united way of bucks county. nbc 10's katy zachry tells us how this and other projects are helping to feed the hungry. >> reporter: from these fields,

tens of thousands of pounds of produce will go to food pantries in bucks county. students and volunteers will pick and pack fruits and vegetables. it's a new partnership between the college and the united way. to supply the county's 26 food pantries with fresh produce. >> the food pantries don't see fresh perishable items. in a lot of cases they're not even able to get them out in time before they go bad. >> reporter: pantries are most in need during the summer months because kids are home from school. in bucks county, 15% of kids don't know where they'll get their next week. these protein-rich meals in a bag can feed an entire family. they'll package 100,000 of people in just three hours. they'll raise hope and awareness. >> the day of putting 100,000 meals out into the public on friday is also about reminding everybody to go to their local pantry and support them,

especially during the summer, it's when it's most needed. >> reporter: reporting in doylestown, katy zachry, nbc 10 news. now your nbc 10 first alert weather with meteorologist bill henley. >> skies are clear this morning. we're watching the temperatures fall with clear skies, though, we'll see bright sunshine today. we're headed for the 80s this afternoon. 66 degrees in philadelphia. humidity is way down compared to yesterday morning, the last few mornings at that. the temperatureç is down by 7 philadelphia. parts of the area, even cooler than that, down by 13 degrees. completely dry this morning along beach avenue. sunshine at the shore. today but there are some clouds ahead as we head into the weekend. you can see we're completely clear in philadelphia. just a few high clouds coming into the area. those will clear out. we'll see sunshine during the day. you can see a little activity to the west. there's a storm system that's moving through the midwest. most of it is going to trend to

the south but it's going to come close enough to give us clouds. those clouds will start moving in tonight and behind those clouds are some showers and thunderstorms. we could see some showers in the area tomorrow. but as far as thunderstorms are concerned, that's looking less likely at this point. the weekend overall will be pretty nice. it's not going to be an all-day rainfall tomorrow. for today, all-day sunshine. 80s this afternoon. nice and comfortable. the humidity comes way down thanks to the north, northwesterly wind that will be blowing up to 10 miles an hour. tomorrow, a cooler day with clouds coming in, just a chance of scattered light showers. most of the day will be dry. 79 degrees. we will get sunshine and clouds during the day on saturday. then clouds are out of here for sunday. a nice one, humidity is low for sunday and monday. the temperatures climbing a bit monday afternoon, after topping out at 82 degrees sunday, 84 on monday and to keep climbing for tuesday, partly sunny skies. comfortable tuesday. it's wednesday and thursday that we'll see the humidity come back

with a chance of some showers and thunderstorms. the last report, there's an accident on columbus boulevard. jillian mele, what's the latest? >> a dump truck hit a hole. columbus boulevard southbound right near the entrance and exit to 95. you can see that activity on columbus boulevard. we do have one lane blocked on the southbound side. northbound side of columbus boulevard is okay right now. northeast extension, northbound side right yoz saw approach lansdale, normal, overnight construction out there. for drivers in delaware, huge delays along route 13 yesterday because of the firefly music festival. this is route 13 april state street just outside of dover downs. right now it's quiet. that's one of the cameras i will continue to monitor for you throughout the morning. >> this is one of jillian mele's

philadelphia police are looking for an armed robber who ripped off a dollar store in the city's strawberry neighborhood. philadelphia police are looking for the driver of this truck who they say is one of two men wanted in connection with a theft in the city's port richmond neighborhood. this happened earlier this month. officers say the men broke into the grounds of the kawa trading company and stole a muffler system off a truck. that's worth about $800. a montgomery county man accused of exposing himself to women while holding swiss cheese will not face any time behind bars. he pleaded guilty to harassment. a judge sentenced him to eight years of probation. here's pagano with a piece of swiss in one of the encounters. the old rivalry between the dog and the mail man has caused

some homes in north jersey their door-to-door postal service. this is happening in rochelle park in burgin county, not for from new york city. meet max, the chocolate lab. the postal service says he's attacked three letter carriers this year alone with one mail man suffering six bites on his arm last month. f homes near max are not too keen about having to retrieve their mail from the local post office. >> as long as the dog is in that house, you're not delivering mail for us. what if the dog lives for nine years. >> they're not going to deliver to me as long as i live. i'll probably die before the dog. >> well, for now, max can stay with his owner. we'll follow the story to see if anything can be worked out between the postal service and the family. now your nbc 10 first alert weather. >> cooler, more pleasant this morning. clouds move out, the humidity is also headed out. right now, temperatures are in

time today. going neighborhood by neighborhood when i come back. first, jillian mele is watching traffic. >> as promised, a live look at 76 right now. this is the schuylkill expressway. you can see both directions are quiet right now. the drive times are looking great, very average to start this friday. 76 eastbound from the blueridge to the vine, it's going to be about 14 minutes. 14 minutes is your time frame on 95 southbound from woodhaven down to the vine. if your travels take you on 422 specifically eastbound, from oaks to route 202, that's a seven-minute trip right now. we have activity because of an accident that happened hours ago, columbus boulevard southbound out near kristen street in south philadelphia, queen village area. we have this activity because it was a utility truck that hit a pole. we had wires that came down at the scene as well. crews are out there, doing repair work as you can see. as a result, one lane is blocked on the southbound side of columbus boulevard. northb s
